I stopped by here while exploring the East Village and it was a delightfully cozy little place. It's tucked away right next to Baby Boomer's, so it was a bit difficult to find, but once I got there, there was a great selection of delicious sounding coffees and sweets. It's also pretty inexpensive so it won't break the bank like another well-known coffee establishment. Certainly on a return trip back to the area, I will make sure to drop by The Village Bean for some great coffee.

I adore this place. The staff is so friendly and the drinks are made with great attention. They have clever drink suggestions and great hours.

This is a great little coffee shop in the East Village that makes a damn fine Americano. In the summer when there are street festivals on Locust, The Village Bean is an oasis of air conditioning. It has a nice atmosphere with big windows and comfortable seating. The coffee drinks are tasty and there are usually pretty decent baked goods on hand. I am always amused that the artwork in the womens' restroom depicts a Starbucks. Conscious choice or just the only artwork of a coffeehouse exterior they could find?? I giggle every time.

Stopped here passing through Des Moines and was impressed with the good selection of drinks and food items. Drink I ordered was excellent and the staff was quick and friendly.

Nice little coffee shop with great soy lattes! I dig that they have Cliff Bars as a vegan option to snack on as well as fruit! Staff is super nice and they support local artist by hosting local art shows. Good place to work or meet someone for a meeting! Glad East Village has this!

Friendly employees, the guy making my latte added latte art, which was beautiful. The coffee is great, and the atmosphere is equally as great. Fun local coffee shop, nice art, good music. This is defiantly my favorite coffee shop in Des Moines

This is a snazzy little joint! A must when hanging out in the East Village. The last time I was here I was greeted before I could even kick the snow off my boot. I was with a bigger group of people and we all had beverages. At one point the gentleman working came out from behind the counter and specifically asked us if we needed anything else. Whatta fella! Get yourself a coffee from here, you wont be sorry.

I admit that I'll need to check this place out more before I'll know 100% how I feel about it, but my first experience was a great one. This is a cool little place in the East Village. It's pretty nice on the inside - had a good feel to it. The employees were incredibly nice. They checked in on us a couple of times and asked if we wanted anything - that's not a type of service that I've experienced at coffee shops before. I would definitely recommend this place to people in the area.

Glad I found this shop they are warm and friendly and serve a great cup of coffee. The pastry selection was a bit week but I only wanted coffee. Its usually a crap shoot on these locally coffee shops but this bet I won. Do yourself a favour and spend your time and money here. You won't be disappointed.

We stopped in here after lunch one day to satisfy our sweets craving with some tasty coffee products. It was a bit hidden, but once you look closely at where the map locates it, you will see it! Parking is available on the street only, so hopefully it's not too busy when you visit! Upon entering you are greeted with a great aroma of coffee and hot sandwiches. The staff members here are very friendly and funny! They are fun to talk to and will give you recommendations if needed. It was only visiting here that I found out they serve food, this is something I need to sample in the future. For drinks we got the Iced Latte flavored with Hazelnut (Huge list of flavor options to choose from) and Latte Shake Strawberry n Cream (multiple flavor options). We also sampled their scotcharoo dessert snack. The drinks were both very tasty, and the scotcharoo was incredible! It tasted sweet, but not overpowering, and it tasted fresh! The atmosphere here is nice, it's a quiet coffee shop setting with limited seating. Give this place a try, you will not be disappointed!

Was visiting Des Moines for a day, and needed some caffeine before shopping. I was in a grumpy mood (see above: pre-coffee gloom), but the barista did not bat an eye. He had personality and was cheerful without being obnoxious. I got a latte and it was very good. I would definitely return!

The Village Bean can be hard to find at first, sandwiched into a narrow space north of HoQ. Didn't get anything fancy, schmancy, just wanted a cup of regular. Would have liked it to be a blend that was stronger tasting coffee. Its probably hard to make a narrow space with no windows inviting but my impression of the space was that the monochromatic grey walls made it look dim and gloomy. So after scoping it out, decided to just get mine to go and exit with it out into the sunshine.

Comparable to Scooters, this place has some seating (like 7-8 tables), with usually 2-3 baristas working. They're known for their lattes. One downside to this place is the downtown location: during the week you have to pay for parking, which is a real drag, because every cup of coffee this adds 1-2$ onto your bill. But for meeting up with someone downtown, it's a perfect little spot located in East Village.

This coffee shop is amazing! Finding this little gem made my day trip even more fantastic! The decor was adorable and they have the best coffee I have ever had in my life (I recommend the blended toasted marshmallow latte). I wish I bought one of their shirts, they were so cute! I hope to stop back next time I'm in Des Moines!

Cozy and calm, great coffee shop in the heart of the east village. They have new local art up all the time, and really good brew! I can always drink mine black, here, and that's the most important thing for me in a coffee shop. It's walkable, and there's always parking available -- if you're not confident at the back-in angle parking, there's parallel available across the street.

I stopped here for a cup of Joe last Saturday as my parents and I were exploring the East Village. It's a nice little coffee shop with good service, a friendly smile, and comfortable seating. I ordered black coffee and found it to be smooth and without any bitterness. I would have been happier with a more robust brew, but it still hit the spot on this cold and rainy day.

I want to like The Village Bean, I do, but I find the regular brew coffee bland and weak. If you perfer weaker coffee, it's fine. I like dark, bold coffees. It's also too small "visit," basically you can only grab a drink and shop the East Village.

This place may have the best coffee in town.
